The Danish Lunch Part 2: Going against the grain(s)
If you haven’t read Part 1, please go back and read it first!
For those of you that have, you’ll remember I've shared the negative impact that a specific cultural norm had on my ability to be at my best at work.
So what did I do?
Change happens in the everyday tiny
I started with one tiny thing:
I scheduled a call with a friend on Monday lunch.
Here’s why it worked for me, immediately:
It gave me an ‘excuse’ to leave the office
Which helped me leave the office
It reinforced my good decision because I spoke to a friend, boosting my sense of connection and belonging.
The Domino Effect
Here’s what it did for me, over time:
I started bringing my own lunch on a Monday, which gave me the confidence to bring my own lunch most days
I proved to myself that doing something a bit different wasn’t actually that hard to do
It sparked different conversations about what I was cooking, shifting our work conversations to more personal ones, and onto a topic I loved
Your environment can be a catalyst for positive change
Our environments have a huge impact on how we behave. But that means they can also be influenced to our advantage.
The work we do at Bright Yellow is designed to help you identify the influences in your environment, and curate tiny changes that will help you perform at your best at work.
