The Story of Bright Yellow

What’s in a name?

Yes, it’s a colour I love. As a positive person with a sunny disposition, it also fits my personality. But the name actually comes from a tiny little thing I used to do to make a great first impression as a consultant.

When conducting organisational assessments, I’d only have 30 minutes with a CEO or MD to build trust before spending a week with their team. That’s not long!

Making an impactful first impression was essential. Especially as a woman in her mid 20s, it was important to mirror the quiet self assurance of my C-suite (and often, male) clients.

When scheduling the meeting, I’d propose an appropriate spot and say, “I’ll be the woman in the Bright Yellow jacket.”

The impact?

  • I saved time and energy looking for photos online of people I’d never met, meaning I could focus on a brilliant first meeting.

  • It created a talking point. People loved it!

  • It made my positive personality a strength in a situation where I could easily have felt like an imposter - rather than focusing on what I didn’t have, I made the most of what I did.

These are exactly the kind of practical, purposeful and positive things I love to help clients find, to transform their relationship with work.
